Community Partnerships for Healthy Children (CPHC)
Council
CCP's Role
CCP helped facilitate the development of and currently staffs the Community Partnerships for Healthy Children (CPHC) Council, composed of 18 community collaboratives who participated in the CPHC initiative. During the development period, CCP and Public Health Institute (PHI) are acting as an "incubator" for this newly emerging regional association.
CCP provides technical, convening, fund development, fiscal management and policy development support to the CPHC Council for a two-year period. At the end of the funding the CPHC Council will have developed into an association of collaboratives affecting health policy at both state and local levels.
The Work of the CPHC Council
The CPHC Council supports grassroots, community-based collaboratives to work together to improve children's health. Because the Council believes that nothing is more important than children's health, they are focused on policy issues that improve health access for all children in California. Council members attend statewide advocacy meetings, work to publicize best practices for grassroots advocacy and hold an annual training at the State Capitol to educate community members about how to impact the political process.
Everyday People Really Making a Difference
In 2002, CCP designed and implemented, with the help of the CPHC Council, a legislative event that included a gathering on the Capitol steps. This "Really" provided an opportunity for families to tell real stories about how weakening the health care safety net for thousands of California's poorest children would impact their communities. In the spring of 2003, the CPHC Council once again went to the Capitol to let their legislators know about the impact of potential health care cuts on real families.
